Rose, but not the rose you're bracing for. No powder, no soap, no great-aunt's dressing table.
It opens tart — blackcurrant and lemon, the sharp bite of a berry a day before it's ready — and the rose walks in underneath already full-sized. Pink pepper keeps it from turning sweet. What's left after a few hours is warm and faintly mineral, like a stone wall that has been in the sun all afternoon.
